Cathy Wilson

Cathy is a retired educator who has lived in Morris Township since 2005. She holds a BA in English from Washington University in St. Louis and three master’s degrees: one in Special Education from the University of Michigan, one in Educational Leadership from National-Louis University in Illinois, and one -  which she earned in 2012 - in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from Columbia University in New York.  Her background also includes extensive training as a mediator.  She has two grown children and two young grandchildren.

Cathy actively supports environmental causes through her work as co-chair of Green Earth Ministries at her church and through her work as Vice President of Sustainable Morristown, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support local efforts to go green, save money, and preserve the environment for future generations.

Cathy is a member of NJ Planning Officials – an organization that provides information about land use and planning issues. Additionally, she single-handely brought unedited video of the Morris Township Committee meetings to the community through Cablevision and YouTube, at NO COST TO TAXPAYERS, despite stiff opposition from our elected officials. She is the Founder and President of Friends of Televised Access in Morris Township – a nonprofit organization.  She is also the chair of the local Democratic Party (the Morris Township Democratic Committee).

In 2015, Cathy ran for local office and lost by only 37 votes out of nearly 9,000 cast.  Her resolve to open our local government to a broader range of perspectives and ideas remains undeterred and is buoyed by the words of George Washington (a personal hero with whom she shares a birthday): “Perseverance and spirit have done wonders in all ages.”
